Lately, I have been concentrating on driftwood and beach stone wind chimes, sometimes with the addition of artist-made sea glass, or perhaps a half oyster shell. These are really nice materials, and very durable for those living in high-wind, heavy rain or snow areas. Glass looks so great in the sunlight, beach stones and driftwood look at their best in the rain!

There is something about driftwood and beach stones: they just work so well together! Naturally beautiful!

The antiqued copper of the large chimes, or darkened brass of the small chimes, look great with these materials too!

It's very exciting to discover a new beach that has more than the usual nice smooth rounded beach stones. So expect plenty of awesome beach stone (and driftwood, and glass!) wind chimes to appear on my website and on Etsy in the coming weeks. The one photographed above is the classic Zen Chime. Something about the simplicity is extremely attractive. It's well balanced!

I like to point out to customers visiting that an interesting difference between my glass and the beach stones is that the glass looks best in the sunlight (especially backlit), and the stone look best wet in the rain (like they look as the tide goes out). They get shinier and the colours show better. So not infrequently, they buy one of each. Now that's covering all the bases!

Part of my job is to go beach combing-- quite a perk! Although there are tons of driftwood here on the Sunshine Coast, BC, Canada, it is actually quite challenging to find pieces suitable for my needs. Most pieces are way, way too large, and many of the smaller pieces are all smashed up. So I spend quite a few hours on the beach, looking for the 'good' stuff.

The design above is popular. I have been out of stock for several weeks, and only now am I starting to get a few more set to list on my website. Once I have all of them made, and photographed, i plan to place them on my website all at the same time. Probably around June 16-20th.

I also plan to make a few of the smaller chimes with driftwood and beach stones: I have some amazing wood for those. So keep an eye on Coast Chimes to see all these new West Coast chimes.
