The chimes are cut from raw brass, double-sanded, antiqued with a special process (not paint or dye, this finish will never flake or peel), they offer a gentle, sweet reminder to look, when the wind chimes them.

The chime featured above consist of artist-made sea glass, a most glorious cobalt blue, copper wire, handmade copper hook, 3 hand cut brass chimes antiqued with a reactive (not paint or powder coating, this finish will not flake or wear off). The chimes are attached to a handmade copper hanger with 21 strand nylon coated stainless steel wire, secured with sterling silver crimps (no rust!).

Busy days at Coast Chimes. Lately, the focus has been on making Kaleidoscope wind chimes. They take a long time to make, between all the handmade hardware on the chimes, the double brushing, the treatment of the copper, the artist-made sea glass, the cedar box frame, and so on...

But the end result is breath taking. Even after all these years, as the light filters through from behind I am freshly impressed by the effect. So cool!

I just finished a series of rectangular style. Soon I will be making more diamond-shaped ones, both big and small style. In between, I'll take a little break from the woodwork, and make some glass small and large wind chimes and maybe some suncatchers for those who either do not like chimes, or who are not allowed to have them in their condo (by the way, if you are in such a situation, a lot of people hang these wind chimes indoors-- really nice!).

We will likely soon be into even warmer days, and those are the days I wait all year for. I will take 2-3 hours off each sunny, warm, afternoon to hike, bike, laze on the beach with a book, swim. That's my sort of holiday!

I make several styles of kaleidoscope wind chime, but I am extremely fond of those with just blue and green glass-- something very soothing about that combination of colors. Cooling too, on those hot summer days.

The glass pieces are artist-made sea glass, loosely held (can be shaken around) between two thick plates of glass in a well crafted red cedar box frame.

The chimes are classic Coast Chimes, copper that has been brushed, treated with a reactive, and polished. All the hardware is handmade from copper, to be extremely durable.

I have been working really hard, preparing for the fast approaching Sunshine Coast Art Crawl where, if history repeats, things should be hopping at my studio. It is the most exciting event of the year, but it does take an enormous amount of preparation. At the same time, I increase my stock enough to have lots available for the Christmas rush, which follows fast after the art crawl.

Just now, I have finished 10 rectangular large kaleidoscope wind chimes. They turned out really well, so I am very pleased. They are a striking addition to any garden, yard, sundeck, or porch. My entire collection of kaleidoscope wind chimes and suncatchers can be found here: Kaleidoscope Works.

Now I am cutting, polishing, assembling copper chime sections. This is one of the most labour intensive parts of all my duties. I hope to get nine sets assembled this week, and then I can move onto mid-sized freestanding beach stone chimes.
