The artist-made sea glass pieces are loosely trapped between two plates of extra-thick glass, so you can shake them around.

Freestanding chimes with a beach stone base are so cool! Put them anywhere: on your porch, your deck, your lawn, or in a garden with a bit of mulch pushed up around the stone.

The artist-made sea glass is smooth with a mat finish, and skillfully copper wire wrapped.

The chimes are cut from raw brass, polished, treated with a reactive (will not peel or flake) to produce such a nice finish, and then strung on a handmade copper hanger with nylon coated stainless steel, and sterling silver crimps. Made to last! Soothing sound.

The flowing copper support is embedded right into the beach stone. The beach stone is naturally beautiful: smooth and rounded.

I love beach stones! The look (smooth, rounded, and even prettier when wet from rain), and the excuse they provide for me to go for a hike along the shore, beach combing.

They make an exceptional base for my freestanding chimes. The 1/4 inch diameter copper tubing is inserted right into the beach stone.

The artist-made sea glass is gorgeous: mat finish with smooth edges. Outstanding colors: amazing what old bottles can become! This freestanding wind chime is brilliant. The beach stone base fits anywhere, but looks especially wonderful partially buried in mulch. It is also suitable for rock gardens. Many enjoy this style on their patio or sundeck, as well. Versatile, and a high degree of cool factor.

The glass is artist-made sea glass. The chimes are hand cut brass, 7, 6, 5 inches long, and attached to the handcrafted hanger with nylon coated stainless steel via sterling silver crimps. This is made to provide years of pleasure.

Even after over 20 years of making unique high-quality creations for the home and garden, it amazes me what I come up with. Look at this wind chime!

I love using natural materials, and beach stones are right at the top of the list. They make such an excellent base for freestanding wind chimes. The only drawback is that they are obviously very heavy for shipping-- but that is not much of a problem for my customer, since I pay most of the postage (all my works ship for a flat $10 charge to the customer, even when the actual postage is closer to $100).

This type of wind chime is ideal for placing on a deck or patio, or, even better, bury the stone part way in your rock garden. So beautiful! It is not bothered at all by snow, rain, sun or wind. Simply enjoy it!

I always love it when customers from the past resurface. I had been putting off making any of my very large, heavy, freestanding double wind chimes since moving to our new house. They take a lot of energy and concentration to make, and they are truly a nightmare to pack and ship. However, I did have the idea in the back of my mind. My wife also wanted some for our small yard. But I would still be putting it off if a customer who got one years ago did not email out of the blue asking if I could make one for her. That got me going.

I'm very pleased with the result: probably the finest one that I have ever made. After I get it packed and shipped, and recover from the effort, I guess I will just have to go and make a few more!

Freestanding large wind chime, with a smooth, rounded natural beach stone base.

I really like beach stones, and I like working with them. I have made quite a few large freestanding wind chimes incorporating beach stones for the base, but just last week I had a new idea.

In the past, I searched for stones with rounded, smooth tops, and flat bottoms. Suddenly, I saw that a rounded bottom might work even better, and also look even neater. My theory in practice works perfectly. The stone is very heavy, at about forty pounds, and the gently rounded bottom means that although this base can nicely wobble, even if you bend the chime all the way to the ground it self rights. Very cool! So this style turns out to be impossible to tip or blow over.

It was a challenge to get back to work after that fabulous holiday on Maui, especially with the very heavy rains we have been having here on the Sunshine Coast, and high winds. But last week I did buckle down and get a lot accomplished.

Finally I have some new stock of the very large freestanding wind chimes. These are great! Each one has a nice, smooth natural Pacific beach stone base, my smooth with mat finish beach style glass, and handcrafted copper wind chimes. The double ones have intertwined copper supports. There is only one thing I do not like so much about these: packing them to ship! But that is not your problem, and for the USA and Canada, I ship them for free!

My large works do not fly out the door, as they are pretty expensive. The one pictured above features a massive Pacific driftwood base, copper intertwined flowing supports, beautiful glass and two sets of copper chimes. It sold yesterday.

I used to be really happy when one of my large works sold. I still am, but that initial thrill is now overshadowed with dread: these are a chore to pack for shipping!

It used to be even more work to ship something like this. I used to actually cut plywood and build a special box for the copper support. Now I just use big sheets of cardboard, lots of tape, and shipping paper. Those poor collectors who received their order in a big plywood box probably did not appreciate having to dispose of the packing materials.

I have a page dedicated to large works and there are still two available on my website. They are really nice on a sundeck, or out in the garden. They can also be used indoors, in a home or an office, as kinetic art.

I have a passion for beautiful smooth rounded beach stones, and for copper. So it is only natural that I love creating freestanding wind chimes from these materials. I just finished making the one pictured above, and consider it a real success. It's an organic, lovely piece.

The only problem with these is that they are large, and heavy. That's a problem because I not only make them, but I ship them; trust me, they are not so much fun to pack and the postage is not so much fun to pay.

Whenever I get a notice that one sold, first my heart soars with the thrill of another sale, and then sinks with the realization of the task ahead. But over the years I have perfected the art of packing these, and it's not all that bad anymore. Bad, but not that bad.

And from the enthusiastic emails customers send after receiving this style, the effort is worth it.

Busy times here on the Sunshine Coast. The Christmas rush, and then several wholesale orders, made a BIG dent in my stock. So I am working full speed to make new things.

I've just completed a series of freestanding natural beach stone sculptures, some with handcrafted copper chimes, some with double sets of chimes, and othres with glass and no chimes. These are truly unique. The glass and copper go so nicely with the natural stone and the tung nut oiled wood. Very peaceful.
